What is Rain Scald? (Rain Rot)
A bacterial infection of the skin resulting in matted scabs affecting the neck, back and occasionally on the limbs. The organism that causes this is Dermatophilis Congolensis. Usually this means there is a carrier animal, so disinfecting brushes, and halters is essential. It is not in the soil, as was once believed.
Ideally, wash with antibacterial soap, such as an Iodine soap, or Chlorhexadine soap – massage and pick the scabs off to let the skin air dry.
